Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, practical approach designed to help you understand and change unhelpful patterns in the way you think (your cognitions) and how you respond (your behaviour). Rather than focusing on the distant past, CBT centres on the difficulties you’re experiencing right now, offering tools and strategies that can help you feel better in your day-to-day life.

CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings and behaviours are closely connected. When we interpret situations through a negative or distorted lens, we may experience difficult emotions and react in ways that reinforce those negative patterns. Over time, this cycle can become automatic.

At our Bishopbriggs counselling practice, your therapist will work collaboratively with you to identify these patterns and explore how they affect your wellbeing. Together, you’ll learn to challenge unhelpful thinking, reframe your perspective and develop healthier, more constructive responses. You’ll also be supported in practising practical techniques between sessions to help you build confidence and maintain progress.

CBT can be especially helpful for anxiety, depression, stress, worry, low self-esteem and many everyday challenges. With clear guidance and evidence-based strategies, it empowers you to manage difficulties more effectively and move toward a more balanced and positive way of living.
