Psychodynamic Therapy

The psychodynamic approach is rooted in traditional psychoanalysis but focuses more directly on your present concerns, aiming to help you find clarity and relief in a shorter timeframe. While the work is grounded in depth and insight, sessions are centred on the issues you’re facing right now and how your past may be influencing them.

Psychodynamic therapy recognises that our early experiences, relationships and unconscious patterns shape the way we think, feel and behave as adults. At our Bishopbriggs practice, your therapist will work with you to explore these influences in a safe, accepting and trusting therapeutic relationship.

You’ll be gently encouraged to talk about your childhood experiences, significant relationships and the emotional patterns that have developed over time. Through techniques such as free association, interpretation and an exploration of transference, where feelings from past relationships are unconsciously transferred onto the therapist you can begin to understand these patterns more clearly.

As this insight deepens, you may find yourself better able to recognise recurring themes, release old emotional burdens and develop healthier ways of relating to others. Psychodynamic therapy can help you gain a more grounded sense of self and create meaningful, lasting change: right here in Bishopbriggs.
